How do I respond to friends and family members who think I'm overreacting?

Updated: Mar 24, 2020

The first thing is that these are your feelings and nobody can tell you they are wrong, misguided or that they are an over-reaction.

How you feel is how you feel.

What they can say is something along the lines of, ‘when you do (whatever the behavior might be or feeling you are expressing) it makes me feel (pick any one) ‘anxious’, annoyed’, ‘irritated’ etc. To say you are over reacting may feel to you as they are dismissing, minimizing or trivializing your concerns.

You might want to share with friends and family why you feel the way you do and that you need them to hear you.
